        Passport and Visa

A valid passport is required to enter China. China does not allow entrance if the holder’s passport expires in less than six months; returning home with an expired passport is against the law, and may result in a fine.

The passport will contain the following personal information: Passport number, Surname, Fire name(s), Date of birth, Place of birth, Gender, Validity, Photograph, Signature. The personal information, photograph and signature are all on a certain page of the passport. The page is in two parts. The lower part has two lines of print which can be read by special passport reading equipment. All the information on the page can also be read by the human eye. There is no hidden information and there will be no way of adding information to the page after the passport has been issued.

Traveling in China requires a tourism visa (L). L visa is divided into two kinds: group visa and individual visa. If you are a part of a group, the tour operator will often help to get it. Group visas will usually be issued for groups with at least 5 members, and the guide of your group will keep the visas.

An individual traveler can apply for one at any Chinese embassy or consulates, and the procedure is usually simple.
