a lot是口語(yǔ)中的一個(gè)常用詞組，多用于肯定句，有時(shí)也用于疑問(wèn)句。其主要用法有如下幾點(diǎn)：

　　一、作名詞短語(yǔ)，表示“很多;多量”，在句中作主語(yǔ)、賓語(yǔ)或表語(yǔ)，其后常有動(dòng)詞不定式短語(yǔ)作后置定語(yǔ)，

　　如：

　　Sometimes we have very little snow, but sometimes there’s a lot.有時(shí)我們這兒雪很少，有時(shí)卻又很多。(作主語(yǔ))

　　There is a lot to see at the party. 聚會(huì)上有許多可觀賞的東西。(作主語(yǔ))

　　He’s given her a lot to eat. 他給了她許多好吃的東西。(作賓語(yǔ))

　　You know a lot/much about English names. 你知道許多有關(guān)英語(yǔ)姓名的情況。(作賓語(yǔ))

　　We see a lot of him these days. 這幾天我們經(jīng)常見到他。(作賓語(yǔ))

　　This is a lot. 這真多。(作表語(yǔ))

　　二、作副詞短語(yǔ)，在句中作程度狀語(yǔ)，表示“很;非常;常�！�，修飾動(dòng)詞、感嘆詞、介詞短語(yǔ)、形容詞或

　　副詞的比較級(jí)，如：

　　It usually rains a lot/much at this time of year. 每年這個(gè)時(shí)候都經(jīng)常下雨。(修飾動(dòng)詞rain)

　　Do you wear your new watch a lot? 你常戴你的新手表嗎?(修飾動(dòng)詞wear)

　　Thanks a lot/very much ---that’s very kind. 多謝，十分感激。(修飾感嘆詞thanks，thanks=thank you)

　　He is feeling a lot/much better. 他感覺(jué)好多了。(修飾比較級(jí)better)

　　Your room is a lot bigger than mine. 你的房間比我的大得多。(修飾比較級(jí)bigger)

　　三、a lot前可被such，what，quite，rather修飾，如：

　　I like him quite a lot. 我非常喜歡他。

　　---How much money is left? ---還剩下多少錢?

　　---Rather a lot. ---還有相當(dāng)多。

　　四、a lot of = lots of,可修飾可數(shù)或不可數(shù)名詞，意為“許多”， “大量的”，相當(dāng)于many或much。a lot, a lot of, lots of通常用于肯定句，否定句中一般用many或much，如：

　　There’s a lot of work to do and a lot of people have been sent there.

　　有許多事情要做，許多人已派去那里了。

　　五、用于固定搭配構(gòu)成習(xí)語(yǔ)。

　　have a lot to answer for為糟糕的情況負(fù)責(zé)

　　Jerry’s got a lot to answer for. If it weren’t for him, Ann would never have left Denver.

　　杰里要為這一后果負(fù)責(zé)。如果不是為了他，安永遠(yuǎn)也不會(huì)離開丹佛(美國(guó)科羅拉多州)。

　　have a lot on your plate有很多困難的工作要處理

　　Leave Mum alone-she’s got a lot on her plate at the moment.

　　不要管媽媽―——她眼下有太多的事要處理。

　　I can’t take a holiday at the moment; I’ve got a lot/far too much on my plate.

　　我現(xiàn)在不能休假，我有太多的事要處理。

　　have a lot on/have a lot going on 近期很忙

　　Do you have a lot on for tonight? 你今晚很忙嗎?

　　They will have a lot on tomorrow. 他們明天將很忙。

　　have a lot on one’s mind把很多事情掛在心上

　　He is a businessman. He always has a lot on his mind.

　　他是一個(gè)商人。他總是記掛著很多事情。

　　see + n. (a lot/little/less/more/much/nothing/something) + of + sb./sth. ……見到某人/物

　　He has seen something of life. 他略有閱歷。

　　We hope to see something of you during the holidays. 我們希望在假期里不時(shí)能看到你。

　　something of…表示“幾分; 多少”。
