Wind energy offers many advantages over fossil fuel energy sources, which explains why it has become one of the fastest-growing energy sources in the world. Firstly, being a clean fuel source, wind energy does not pollute the air like power plants that rely on the combustion of fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas. That is to say, wind turbines do not produce atmospheric emissions that cause either acid rain or greenhouse gas. Secondly, wind power is cost effective. Compared with coal, natural gas and nuclear power, all of which cost approximately ten cents per kilowatt-hour, wind power only costs between four to six cents. Wind energy is therefore one of the lowest-priced renewable energy technologies available today.
