　　OK, today I’d like to spend some time going into more detail about symbiosis. Symbiosis, what is it? Anyone?

　　今天我想花點時間更詳細地講講共生關系(symbiosis)。共生關系是什么?有人知道嗎?

　　Um, I thought it’s when two organisms are in a relationship that they both benefit from.

　　我以為是兩種生物處于一種雙方都受益的關系中。

　　Well, at least that’s what I thought it was until I did the reading last night.

　　至少在我昨天晚上看了點資料之前是這么認為的。

　　Now, I am kind of confused about it, because the book used that definition to describe mutualism. Could you explain the difference?

　　現(xiàn)在我有點困惑，因為那本書上用了那個定義解釋互惠共生(mutualism)，你能解釋一下這兩個詞的區(qū)別嗎?

　　Good. I was hoping that someone would bring that up, sometimes scientists working in different fields use the term symbiosis to mean slightly different things.

　　好。我正希望有人能提出這個問題呢，有時候不同領域的科學家會使用共生關系這個術語來指代不同的東西。

　　And it can get confusing. Um, for example, when symbiosis is used as a synonym for mutualism.

　　有時候是挺混亂的，比如把共生關系用作互惠共生的同義詞。

　　But there are quite a few of us out there who think there should be a clearer distinction made between the two.

　　但是也有些人認為應該對這兩個詞做出更明確的區(qū)分。

　　OK, where to begin...um, the original definition of symbiosis is pretty simple, it simply means living together.

　　該從哪開始講呢......共生關系的原始定義非常簡單，就是指生活在一起。

　　So any close relationship between two organisms of different species would be considered a symbiotic relationship, including positive and negative relationships.

　　兩種不同物種的生物之間的任何親密關系都能被認為是一種共生關系，包括積極的和消極的關系。
