　　China is one of the world's four major ancient civilizations. Located in the eastern part of Asia and the west bank of the Pacific Ocean, it covers an area of 9.6 million square kilometers. China has a population ofabout 1.3 billion, the largest in the world, made up by 66 nationalities.

　　China boasts a long history, vast territory, magnificent scenery, rich natural resources and splendid culture. The People's Republic of China was founded in 1949. With more than half a century's development, China has made great achievements in politics, economy, science and technology, culture, education and many other fields, attracting the attention from the world.

　　China has also launched its ambitious space exploration plan, including building a space station by 2020. Now, China is one of the largest exporters in the world and is attracting a large number of foreign investment. Meanwhile, it has invested billions of dollars overseas. In 2011, China surpassed Japan and became the world second largest economy.

　　中國(guó)人民共和國(guó)，簡(jiǎn)稱中國(guó)，位于東亞，與14個(gè)國(guó)家或地區(qū)接壤。它是世界上人口最多的國(guó)家，有13億人口。中國(guó)有56個(gè)民族，漢族占總?cè)丝?2%。漢語(yǔ)是世界上使用最廣泛也是外國(guó)人最難懂的語(yǔ)言之一。漢語(yǔ)方言很多，使用最廣的是普通話和粵語(yǔ)。漢語(yǔ)發(fā)源于象形文字(hieroglyph)，有超過(guò)四萬(wàn)個(gè)漢字。受過(guò)良好教育的人能認(rèn)識(shí)約六千個(gè)字。閱讀報(bào)紙需要認(rèn)識(shí)三千字左右。

　　The People’s Republic of China, commonly known as China, is located in East Asia, and borders 14 nations or districts in the world. It is the most populous state in the world with a 1.3 billion population. China’s made of 56 distinctive ethnic groups, with Han Chinese making the 92% of its whole population.

　　Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world as well as one of the most complicated for foreigners.There are many regional dialects of Chinese although the most widely spoken is Mandarin and Cantonese. Chinese characters evolved over time from earlier forms of hieroglyphs. Chinese contains over 40,000 characters, but a well-educated person can recognized around 6,000 characters. Some 3,000 are required to read a newspaper.
