How shocking and shameful it would be if we did nothing while majestic species like the wild elephant or the rhino were criminally slaughtered into extinction. How tragic it would be to no longer see the wonder in a child’s eyes when she glimpses a lion or marvels at the size of an elephant or the length of a giraffe’s neck.
如果我們在野生大象或犀牛等龐大動物被非法殺盡滅絕時無動于衷，那將是多么驚駭、多么可恥。當人們再也無法看到一個孩子見到獅子時的眼神、再也看不到她望見大象碩大的軀體和長頸鹿頎長的脖頸而驚奇不已的神態(tài)時，那將是多么的可悲。
Today our shared natural heritage is threatened, and time is not on our side. Sophisticated criminal gangs are decimating majestic animals such as the elephant, rhino, sea turtle, and dozens of other species. The profits from this ugly, criminal enterprise fund groups with links to transnational terrorism and undermine regional and global stability.
The scope and lethality of the poaching industry is great, which makes even greater our obligation to get this right.
今天，我們共同的自然遺產受到威脅，而且時不我待。手段高超的犯罪團伙正在殺害大象、犀牛和海龜等名貴的動物及數十種其它物種。從這個丑陋、犯罪行當獲得的利潤成為與跨國恐怖主義有聯(lián)系的團體的資金來源，破壞區(qū)域和全球穩(wěn)定。
偷獵業(yè)的規(guī)模和殺傷性巨大，這使我們做好這項工作的責任更加重大。
People everywhere, in every country, whether it’s in Beijing or in the streets of Washington, D.C., people want healthy air for themselves and for their children. Last year, when I was here, we joined together with our – with China’s leaders in what we call the Strategic & Economic Dialogue. Within this dialogue, we have launched five initiatives as part of our Climate Change Working Group. I’m very pleased to report today that we have completed implementation plans for those five initiatives on heavy-duty vehicles, on smart grid for the delivery of energy, on carbon capture, utilization and storage, on energy efficiency, and finally on collection and management of data.
所有國家所有地方的人，無論是在北京還是在華盛頓(Washington, D.C.)街頭，大家都希望自己和自己的孩子呼吸健康的空氣。去年我在這里時，我們與我們的——與中國領導人一道舉行了我們所稱的戰(zhàn)略與經濟對話(Strategic & Economic Dialogue)。在這個對話范圍內，作為氣候變化工作組(Climate Change Working Group)的工作之一，我們啟動了五項行動計劃。我今天非常欣慰地報告，我們完成了針對重型車輛、智能輸電網、碳捕集、使用與封存、能源效率以及數據收集與管理的這五項行動計劃的實施方案。
