World Toilet Day aims to raise awareness andinspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis– a topic often neglected and shrouded in taboos.

　　This year's observance focuses on ‘toilets and jobs'and the impact of sanitation – or the lack of it – onlivelihoods and work environments.

　　Toilets play a crucial role in creating a strongeconomy. A lack of toilets at work and at home has severe consequences, including poor healthleading to absenteeism, reduced concentration, exhaustion, and decreased productivity. About 17 per cent of all workplace deaths are caused by disease transmission at work.

　　廁所對打造強勁經(jīng)濟起著至關(guān)重要的作用。工作場所和家居沒有廁所會帶來嚴(yán)重后果，包括健康不良，進(jìn)而導(dǎo)致缺勤、注意力下降、疲憊和生產(chǎn)力下降。在工作場所發(fā)生的所有死亡中，工作時疾病傳播造成的死亡大約占17%。

　　Access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) can make economies grow faster. Approximately $260 billion is lost each year to the effects of poor sanitation and unsafe water. Every dollar invested in water and sanitation leads to $4 in economic returns.

　　Yet at least 2.4 billion people across the world lack access to toilets and are struggling to staywell, keep their children alive and work towards a better future. Investing in appropriatetoilets is especially important for women and girls so that they have private, clean and safefacilities, and are able to manage menstruation or pregnancy safely.

　　Sustainable development goal 6 calls on the international community to ensure access totoilets by 2030. Delivering on this basic human right – the right to water and sanitation – isgood for people, business and the economy. Let us continue working towards a world whereeveryone, everywhere, has adequate and equitable sanitation.
