A total of 185 new cultural practices and expressions, including the preparation of luosifen, have been inscribed1 on the latest list of national intangible cultural heritage released by the State Council.

螺螄粉制作技藝等185種新文化習(xí)俗和表現(xiàn)形式被列入國務(wù)院新公布的國家 級非物質(zhì)文化遺產(chǎn)名錄。

The latest fifth list made the total number of national intangible cultural heritage practices reach 1,557, according to the State Council figures.

國務(wù)院數(shù)據(jù)顯示，新的第五批名錄公布后，國家 級非物質(zhì)文化遺產(chǎn)名錄總數(shù)達(dá)到1557項(xiàng)。

Liuzhou luosifen, a soup dish dubbed2 by some people as "durian of soup" for its strong smell, originated in Liuzhou, a city in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous3 region. It features rice vermicelli soaked in a spicy4 broth5 flavored by river snails7 and topped with ingredients including pickled bamboo shoots, string beans, peanuts and tofu skin.

螺螄粉，源自中國廣西壯族自治區(qū)南部的柳州市，是一種帶湯美食，因氣味濃烈而被稱為“加湯的榴蓮”。其特色是將米粉浸泡在河螺調(diào)味的辛辣肉湯中，并加上腌筍、青豆、花生和豆腐皮等配料。

Despite having the word "snail6" in its Chinese name, actual snails don't commonly appear in the dish, but are used to flavor the broth.

盡管螺螄粉的名字里有“螺螄”，但螺螄是用來給湯入味的，粉里通常并沒有真正的螺螄。

Xinhua reports that the annual sales of river snail rice noodles in more than 20 countries and regions exceeded 10 billion yuan ($1.54 billion) in 2020, while providing over 250,000 jobs across the industrial chain.
