　　B: Oh, today is the day for Gaokao. Do you know the Chinese Gaokao? It's the National College Entrance Examination, which takes place once a year in June. This high school is one of the sites where the Gaokao is taking place. It's a very important day for Chinese families with high school graduates. Every year on this day, there are police here to maintain order, and work on construction sites nearby must stop to reduce noise. Some parents even book rooms in hotels nearby the day before just to make sure their children can get a good rest before the exam and can get to the site quickly the next day.//

In China, many people believe that the Gaokao can make or break young people. So parents all hope their children will get good results in the examination. They will do everything they can to help their children get into good universities. //

　　B: Well, this is China. The Gaokao is not perfect, but it is the most strictly regulated and transparent examination system in China. For hundreds of millions of Chinese youngsters, it is the fairest and most effective way of getting a college education, regardless of one's family background.//
