Singaporeans opt for e-hongbao

　　With Chinese New Year around the corner, the hongbao - or red packets - traditionally exchanged during this period are on the minds of many Singaporeans.

　　春節(jié)臨近，許多新加坡人惦記著包紅包，發(fā)紅包是過(guò)年期間的一個(gè)傳統(tǒng)。

　　While hongbao are usually given by hand, it has become common practice in China for relatives to send each other e-hongbao via messaging app WeChat.

　　雖然紅包通常都是當(dāng)面發(fā)，但在中國(guó)，親戚之間通過(guò)通訊應(yīng)用微信互發(fā)電子紅包已成為普遍做法。

　　In a statement on Monday, the Monetary Authority of Singapore encouraged Singaporeans to opt for e-hongbao this Chinese New Year.

　　1月11日，新加坡金融管理局(金管局)發(fā)布聲明，鼓勵(lì)新加坡人今年春節(jié)發(fā)電子紅包。

　　"They will help to reduce queues for physical notes and are more environmentally friendly," MAS said.

　　新加坡金管局表示，“這將有助于減少排隊(duì)換新鈔的現(xiàn)象，并且更加環(huán)�！薄�

　　One way to send e-hongbao is via PayNow.

　　發(fā)送電子紅包的一種方式是通過(guò)使用電子轉(zhuǎn)賬服務(wù)PayNow。

　　Those who bank with Citibank, DBS Bank, OCBC Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, UOB and Maybank will soon be able to add Chinese New Year greetings when they do so.

　　在花旗銀行、星展銀行、華僑銀行、渣打銀行、大華銀行和馬來(lái)西亞銀行開(kāi)戶的用戶，很快就可以在轉(zhuǎn)賬的同時(shí)附上春節(jié)祝福語(yǔ)。

　　Some Singaporeans prefer gifting new physical notes but these are often returned to the banks by the public after Chinese New Year anyway.

　　一些新加坡人更喜歡發(fā)嶄新的紙鈔，但無(wú)論如何，這些紙鈔往往會(huì)在春節(jié)后被市民存回銀行。

　　MAS estimates some 330 tons of carbon emissions are generated by the production of new notes each Chinese New Year.
