        第一段:

        Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind. We will not succeed inmitigating climate change, adapting to the technological revolution, let alone achieve gender equality, without ambitious political commitment to universal education.

        沒有包容和公平的優(yōu)質(zhì)教育以及全民終身學(xué)習(xí)機(jī)會(huì),各國將無法破除讓數(shù)百萬兒童、青年和成人掉隊(duì)的貧困怪圈。沒有對普及教育的莊嚴(yán)政治承諾,我們將無法減緩氣候變化,無法適應(yīng)技術(shù)革命,更遑論實(shí)現(xiàn)性別平等。

        1. 第一句中,countries will not succeed in breaking the cycle of poverty是主干;

        其中that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind是the cycle of poverty的定語從句;

        2. 第二句中,這里面mitigating climate change和adapting to the technological revolution并列,都是succeed in doing結(jié)構(gòu)的doing部分;

        3. lifelong opportunities for all“全民終身學(xué)習(xí)機(jī)會(huì)”,類似的短語“全民教育” education for all。

        4. succeed in doing表示“成功做某事”,例如金融時(shí)報(bào)例句:

        Greece can succeed in making its debt sustainable in the long term if it succeeds in both increasing growth and reducing its debt ratio.

        希臘如能提高經(jīng)濟(jì)增長率并降低債務(wù)比率,那么從長期來看,它就能夠使債務(wù)狀況變得可持續(xù)。

        5. Let alone這一詞組常用來表達(dá)漢語中“更不用說”、“更談不上”、“何況”等意義;廣泛應(yīng)用于否定句中,用于前面陳述一種不可能的事實(shí)后,后面陳述更加不可能的句型。

        Let alone在句中作并列連詞用,它后面既可接名詞或動(dòng)名詞,又可接形容詞、介詞短語、動(dòng)詞不定式以及過去分詞等等。

        如果接了動(dòng)詞,let alone后面的句子和前面句子的單復(fù)數(shù)是一致的,例如經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)人例句:

        Although almost nobody picks them up, let alone reads them cover to cover, the election manifestos published by British political parties matter.

        盡管幾乎沒人會(huì)撿起英國政黨出版的選舉宣言,更不用說一頁一頁地讀,然而它們卻是很重要。

        所以,我們可以看到今天這句是achieve gender equality,是achieve和前面的succeed并列,所以都是動(dòng)詞原型。

        第二段:

        This day is the occasion to reaffirm fundamental principles. Firstly, education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility. Secondly, education is the most powerful force in our hands to ensure significant improvements in health, to stimulate economic growth, to unlock the potential and innovation we need to build more resilient and sustainable societies. Lastly, we urgently need to call for collective action for education at global level.

        1. a human right, a public good and a public responsibility這里的a都可以省譯,講過很多遍了,英譯漢的時(shí)候冠詞a可以省譯。

        注意 human right、public good 、public responsibility都是可數(shù)名詞;單獨(dú)說“人權(quán)”也可以說human rights;單獨(dú)說“公共責(zé)任”也可以說public responsibilities。

        這些都是高頻CATTI詞匯,大家要記住怎么翻譯的哈。

        2. to ensure significant improvements in health,to stimulate economic growth和to unlock the potential and innovation we need to build more resilient and sustainable societies并列做目的狀語;

        we need to build more resilient and sustainable societies是 potential and innovation的定語從句,省略了that。還原就是we need the potential and innovation to build more resilient and sustainable societies.

        3. unlock the potential“釋放潛能”,也可以換為unleash/release the potential.
